ABOUT US

Cirkevná spojená škola in Bardejov, Slovakia, is a Church United School that brings together three educational branches under one administration:

  • Cirkevná základná škola sv. Egídia (St. Egidius Primary and Secondary School) – offering general education to children aged 6 to 14,

  • Gymnázium sv. Jána Bosca (St. John Bosco Grammar School) – a high school for students aged 14 to 20, including a bilingual English-Slovak program,

  • Cirkevná základná umelecká škola sv. Jána Bosca (St. John Bosco Church Elementary School of Arts) – providing artistic education in music, fine arts, and other creative fields.

Together, these three components form a close-knit school community where students grow academically, spiritually, and personally. Our school is based on Christian values, and we aim to educate young people to be not only knowledgeable, but also responsible and compassionate members of society.

Although our school is relatively small – with around 110 students in the grammar school and 400 students in the primary/secondary school – we offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We are a tight-knit community, and many describe our school as one big family. Our current headmaster is Mr. Peter Miko.

What does it mean to be a church school?

As a church (Catholic) school in Slovakia, we integrate faith into everyday school life. We begin each day with morning prayer, regularly celebrate Holy Mass, and provide opportunities for students to participate in spiritual activities, retreats, and charity events. Our goal is to help students grow not only intellectually, but also as compassionate, responsible individuals with strong moral character.

Bilingual Education and International Cooperation

Our St. John Bosco Grammar School has a long-standing tradition, and since 2015, we offer a five-year bilingual program (English-Slovak). In the first year, students receive 12 English lessons per week, including 2 hours with a native British teacher. From the second year, selected subjects – such as Geography, History, Global Studies, Religion, and British and American Literature – are taught in English. Students complete their secondary studies with a final exam (maturita) at the C1 level in English, and the majority of them continue to university education.

When the bilingual program was launched, we also began participating in Erasmus+ projects, collaborating with partner schools in the UK. Although the COVID-19 pandemic and Brexit caused a temporary pause, we are now actively rebuilding international partnerships and seeking new Erasmus+ opportunities.
